This presentation will provide you with a general review of the Alberta Surface Rights Board process, the applicable sections of the Surface Rights Act, and what you need to know for a Section 27 Review of Annual Compensation hearing. Topics will include how to determine the compensation payable as required under the Surface Rights Act, calculating empirical Loss of Use and Adverse Effect values, how to gather and investigate comparable locations and what questions need to be answered when preparing for a compensation hearing.

Brian Mitchell, Owner/Land Agent/R.T. (Ag) - Verity Land Services Ltd.

Graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Diploma in Agriculture and started his land career in 2005. Throughout his land career, Brian has worked on numerous projects in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Combined with his extensive agriculture background, he brings much knowledge and experience to any Surface Land file.

Darcy Harty, Owner/Land Agent - Harty Land Services Ltd.

Raised on a mixed farming operation South of Medicine Hat, Alberta in a small town called Etzikom. Shortly after graduation from Olds College with a Diploma from the Land Agent Field Services program in 1996, he started his land agent career in Edmonton. Over the past 24 years, he has had the opportunity to experience various aspects of land services from being the consultant providing land services for his clients to managing the consultant that provided the land service for the company where he was employed. In September 2019 he determined that it was the right time to pursue a lifelong dream of owning his own consulting company and he launched Harty Land Services Ltd.
