About US

Who We Are

The Canadian Association of Land and Energy Professionals (CALEP) is a national association representing Land and Energy Professionals across Canada. Our members are dedicated to responsible resource development and effective land management, supporting balanced outcomes for industry, landowners, Indigenous communities, regulators, and the public.
Through deep industry expertise, strong professional relationships, and high ethical standards, CALEP plays a vital role in advancing responsible land use and supporting Canada’s energy and infrastructure sectors.
CALEP is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors of up to fourteen elected members who reflect the geographic, professional, and sectoral diversity of land and energy work across the country.

What We Do

CALEP’s objectives include:
  • Promoting education and professional development in land and energy disciplines
  • Engaging with and providing informed input to government and regulatory bodies
  • Establishing, promoting, and upholding high professional and ethical standards
  • Encouraging fellowship and collaboration through association-led activities
  • Developing and maintaining widely adopted standardized agreements that support billions of dollars in land and energy transactions

CALEP is frequently at the forefront of initiatives related to oil and gas regulation, mineral tenure, surface rights access, Indigenous and stakeholder relations, and regulatory modernization.

Land and Energy Professionals

Land and Energy Professionals are the public-facing representatives of energy and infrastructure development. They manage, acquire, and oversee land and resource rights and often serve as the primary link between industry, landowners, Indigenous communities, and government.

CALEP members work as in-house land representatives, field Land Agents, and independent consultants across a wide range of sectors, including oil and gas, renewables, transmission and utilities, transportation, communications, and emerging energy industries.

Land work performed by our members may include:
  • Negotiation of mineral, surface, and access rights
  • Commercial and business agreements
  • Stakeholder, Indigenous, and government engagement
  • Title research and due diligence
  • Land management, permitting, and regulatory compliance
